1. About this policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Celebrity Magazine (“we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, shares and protects personal information when you visit celebritymagazine.nz (the “website”), contact us, comment on an article or send us a contribution.

We are based in New Zealand and handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and its Information Privacy Principles. By using the website you acknowledge the practices described in this policy.

2. Who we are and how to reach us

Celebrity Magazine is an independent online publication covering entertainment, celebrity and lifestyle news. Questions, requests or complaints about privacy can be sent to editor@celebritymagazine.nz or through our contact form by choosing “Privacy request”.

3. Personal information we collect

We only collect personal information that we need for the purposes described in this policy. The information we collect depends on how you use the website.

Information you give us

• Contact form and emails: your name, email address, the topic you select, any link you provide and the content of your message.
• Guest post and sponsored content enquiries: your name, contact details, author bio, drafts, images and any other material you send us.
• Newsletter requests: your name and email address if you ask to receive updates from us.
• Comments: the name, email address and optional website you enter, the comment itself, and the IP address and browser details recorded by WordPress to help prevent spam.

Information collected automatically

• Technical data: like most websites, our hosting servers keep standard logs that can include your IP address, browser type, device, the pages you request, the referring page and the date and time of your visit. These logs are used for security, troubleshooting and performance.
• Cookies: small files stored by your browser, described in the Cookies section below.

Information from other sources

As a publication we report on public figures and newsworthy events using public sources, official statements, interviews and other journalistic material. This policy explains how we handle the personal information of website users and people who contact us.

4. How we use your information

We use personal information only for purposes connected with running the website and publishing our magazine, including to:

• reply to your messages, tips, correction requests and privacy requests;
• assess, edit, publish and credit guest posts and sponsored content, and communicate with contributors and partners;
• send newsletters or updates you have asked for (you can opt out at any time);
• display and moderate comments and protect the website against spam, fraud and abuse;
• maintain, secure and improve the website and understand which content is useful to readers;
• comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms & Conditions.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for purposes you would not reasonably expect.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies help the website work and remember your preferences. We keep their use to a minimum.

• Comment cookies: if you leave a comment you may choose to save your name, email and website in your browser so you do not need to enter them again. These cookies last for one year.
• Security and login cookies: used only for our team when they sign in to manage the website.
• Performance caching: our caching system serves pages quickly and does not use cookies to track visitors.

At the time of writing we do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics cookies. If we introduce them in future we will update this policy first and, where required, ask for your consent.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some features, such as saved comment details, may not work without them.

6. Third-party services and embedded content

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run the website. They process information on our behalf or as needed to provide their service:

• Website hosting and email providers store the website, server logs and the messages you send us.
• Google Fonts: our typefaces are loaded from Google’s servers, which means your IP address is shared with Google when a page loads. See Google’s privacy policy for details.
• Gravatar: if you comment, an anonymised string created from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture.

Articles may include embedded content such as videos, social media posts or maps from services like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or X. Embedded content behaves in the same way as if you had visited the other website, and those services may collect data about you, use cookies and track your interaction with the embed.

7. When we share information

We only disclose personal information when it is necessary and lawful, for example:

• with service providers who help us operate the website and who are required to protect it;
• with your permission, such as publishing your name and bio alongside an article you wrote;
• when required by law, a court order or a lawful request from a government agency;
• to protect the rights, safety or property of our readers, contributors, us or others;
• as part of a sale or restructure of the website, in which case the new owner must respect this policy.

8. Storing information overseas

Some of our service providers store or process data outside New Zealand, for example in Australia, the United States or Europe. When information is sent overseas we take reasonable steps, as required by the Privacy Act 2020, to make sure it will be protected in a way that is comparable to New Zealand law.

9. Security and retention

We use reasonable safeguards to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including secure HTTPS connections, restricted administrator access, login protection and regular software updates. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law. Messages are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up. Published comments remain until they are removed, and contributor details are kept while the related article is published.

10. Your privacy rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to:

• ask whether we hold personal information about you and request access to it;
• ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, out of date or misleading;
• ask us to delete information we no longer need, or to stop sending you updates;
• make a complaint about how we have handled your information.

To make a request, email editor@celebritymagazine.nz or use our contact form. We may need to confirm your identity before acting. We will respond as soon as reasonably practicable and within 20 working days, as the Act requires.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

11. Children’s privacy

The website is written for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. Links to other websites

Our articles link to other websites for sources and further reading. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites and encourage you to read their policies.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we add new features or services. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Significant changes will be highlighted on the website.
